It is highly recommended that travelers through Honduras make a stop at the UNESCO World Heritage Site-the Mayan ruins at Copan.
The ruins are about 60 kilometers from the Guatemalan border and the town is pleasant and vibrant and brings together the best of the old village charm combined with modern comforts. With cobblestone streets, an attractive town square, tantalizing dining opportunities and accommodations that range from affordable back packer style to five star hotels, and many unique botique hotels and B&Bs, Copan has something to offer everyone and should not be missed!
Aside from the main tourist attraction of the ruins, there are outlying ruins to be visited as well as opportunities to visit neighboring native villages, hot springs and waterfalls as well as nature reserves where many different species of birds can be seen.
There is a laid back atmosphere here and it seems as though every person is happy to give advice with a smile – no strings attached!

This beautiful hotel is located less than ten minute walk from the center of town. It’s location gives ample opportunity to explore the hilly streets of the village of Copan and the beautiful architecture and gardens. The rooms are set around a well-tended terraced garden which offers pretty views of the surrounding hills. The building is well-maintained in the typical style of the turn of the century. There are plenty of places to relax in a hammock and enjoy the view. The hotel is in a residential area and the quiet garden setting of the restaurant is a lovely place to start the day with the complementary breakfast. Owners are very kind, welcoming and helpful.
