One of the go-to groceries for local restaurants, Mermaids is known for its selection of fresh vegetables and fruit, frozen shrimp, basa fish and other seafood, plus great prices on staples and paper goods. They have a nice selection of bakery goods at the front of the store by the entrance. Mermaids also has a selection of common medicines such as aspirin, penicillin, sleeping aids and digestive meds. You can find everything you need to provision here, with the added bonus of the cafeteria and ice cream counter location in the same building for fresh prepared foods and sweet tooth gratification. Mermaids does not carry alcohol or tobacco products.
Hours are 8 am to 9 pm Sunday to Thursday. Closes at 5 pm on Friday and re-opens at 6 pm on Saturday.

Bush’s is the island’s big supermarket, carrying all the standard items plus lots of imported products such as Kellogg’s Corn Flakes, bagels, US brand condiments, spices and much more. They have one of the largest selections and shelf space for premium brand liquor, nice wine selection and both local and imported beers. The freezer and dairy cases are well stocked with meats and dairy products and often have specialty items you can’t find anywhere else on the island, like the fresh Roatan lettuce that is popularly used in the island’s restaurants, cheeses and yogurt. There are daily discounted specials on certain items; check the sign at the register when you walk in to see what today’s special is. You’ll find a section of medicine and pharmacy items close by the registers, and a nice variety of products in the health and beauty section. Hands down, Bush’s is a true one stop shopping experience – even has an isle with limited hardware and boat repair items.

This is a true convenience store, nicely laid out and has Utila’s only convenience store style snack bar with nachos, hot dogs and popcorn. You’ll find all the basics here including a premium liquor selection right at the front entrance. Other services include a barber shop, copy center and BAC deposit services. Great one-stop shop for a quick pick of items.

Known for their twice weekly (Tuesday and Friday) delivery of fresh vegetables and fruit. They often have Chinese cabbage, snow peas, eggplant and colored peppers. When available you’ll find blueberries and strawberries plus the standard bananas, pineapple, mango, apples and oranges. Well stocked with staples, dairy, paper goods and a small liquor and medicine supply. Great place to stock up on hard to find imported fresh vegetables.

Located about 2.5 blocks west of the center of town, across from the Fire Station and Bay Islands College of Diving.
An excellent premium liquor selection can be found in this small store. Patron tequila, single malt Scotch, Jim Beam and Crown Royal bourbon and much more. They carry both local and imported beer, excellent selection of wine, and for the morning after, some of the best gourmet coffee on the island. You’ll also find all the usual staples, paper goods, dairy and meat plus a small selection of medicines.
Hours are 8 am to 9 pm Monday to Thursday, 8 am to 11 pm on Friday and Saturdan and 10 am to 6 pm of Sunday.

A true island bodega shop, Wardy’s has a nice selection of fresh vegetables twice a week and all the staples you’d normally need. Added bonus of unusual items is sometimes available at the front counter. We’ve scored fresh okra and mustard greens on occasion.
Hours are 6 am to 6 pm 7 days a week.
